In Zuid-Afrika geboren Australisch (radio)komiek en acteur. Twee nominaties voor Australian Film Institute-prijs: beste mannelijke bijrol in de oorlogsfilm Gallipoli (Peter Weir, 1981), beste mannelijke hoofdrol als bushman in Dusty (John Richardson, 1983).

Speelde als kind al in Australische films als Harmony Row (F. W. Thring, 1933) en The Silence of Dean Maitland  (Ken G. Hall, 1934). Verbleef tussen 1947 en 1979 in Engeland, waar hij veel optrad voor radio en tv, maar ook in het theater en films als Penny Points to Paradise (Tony Young, 1951), Appointment in London (Philip Leacock, 1953), You Know What Sailors Are (Ken Annakin, 1954), The Night My Number Came Up (Leslie Norman, 1955), The Dam Busters (Michael Anderson, 1955), Port of Escape (Young, 1956), The Captain’s Table (Jack Lee, 1959), A Pair of Briefs (Ralph Thomas, 1962), The Wrong Arm of the Law (Cliff Owen, 1963), als Australische zeeman in Doctor in Distress (Thomas, 1963), Doctor in Clover (Thomas, 1966), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum/De pussycats van het oude Rome (Richard Lester, 1966), Tiffany Jones (Pete Walker, 1973), Ghost in the Noonday Sun (Peter Medak, 1973), de korte film Girls Come First (Croisette Meubles alias Joseph McGrath, 1975) en House of Mortal Sin (Walker, 1976). Na zijn glorieuze rentree in de Australische cinema in Gallipoli speelde Kerr daar onder meer in The Pirate Movie (Annakin, 1982), The Year of Living Dangerously (Weir, 1982), Razorback (Russell Mulcahy, 1984), Vigil (Vincent Ward, 1984), The Settlement (top-billed; Howard Rubie, 1984), The Coca-Cola Kid (Dusan Makavejev, 1985), Relatives (Anthony Bowman, 1985), The Lighthorsemen (Simon Wincer, 1987), Kokoda Crescent (Ted Robinson, 1989), Sweet Talker (Michael Jenkins, 1991), Over the Hill (George Miller, 1992), Let’s Get Skase (Matthew George, 2001), Peter Pan (P.J.
