In Brits-Indië geboren Engels-Pakistaans acteur, voluit Mohammed Badi Uzzaman Azmi. Vooral bekend als Ali, de patiënt in het bed naast Michael Gambon in Dennis Potters klassieke televisieserie The Singing Detective (Jon Amiel, 1986). Naast veel ander tv-werk relatief kleine rollen in films als My Beautiful Laundrette (Stephen Frears, 1985), Personal Services (Terry Jones, 1987), Sammy and Rosie Get Laid (Frears, 1987), Cry Freedom (Richard Attenborough, 1987), Bellman and True (Richard Loncraine, 1987), Lebewohl, Fremde (Tevfik Baser, 1991), K2 (Franc Roddam, 1991), Son of the Pink Panther (Blake Edwards, 1993), Bhaji on the Beach (Gurinder Chadha, 1993), Brothers in Trouble (Udayan Prasad, 1995), My Son the Fanatic (Prasad, 1997), Kevin & Perry Go Large (Ed Bye, 2000), All or Nothing (Mike Leigh, 2002), Yasmin (Kenneth Glenaan, 2004), Eastern Promises (David Cronenberg, 2007) en Another Year (Leigh, 2010).
