Amerikaans art director, producent en scenarioschrijver, geboren als Mary Marr Platt. Oscarnominatie voor de art direction van Terms of Endearment (James L. Brooks, 1983). Was tijdens en na haar huwelijk met regisseur Peter Bogdanovich (1966-70) in verschillende hoedanigheden betrokken bij zijn films: als scenarioschrijver en production designer van Targets (1968), inspirator en production designer van The Last Picture Show (1971) en alleen production designer van What's Up, Doc? (1972) en Paper Moon (1973). Oorspronkelijk kostuumontwerper in het theater. Schreef scenario's voor Pretty Baby (Louis Malle, 1978), Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff (Marvin J. Chomsky, 1979) en A Map of the World (Scott Elliott, 1999). Production designer van onder meer The Thief Who Came to Dinner (Bud Yorkin, 1973), The Bad News Bears (Michael Ritchie, 1976), A Star Is Born (Frank Pierson, 1976), Young Doctors in Love (Garry Marshall, 1982), The Man with Two Brains (Carl Reiner, 1983) en The Witches of Eastwick (George Miller, 1987). (Executive) producer van films als Broadcast News (Brooks, 1987), The War of the Roses (Danny De Vito, 1989), The Evening Star (Robert Harling, 1996) en de documentaire Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel (Alex Stapleton, 2011).
