In Oostenrijk geboren Frans-Amerikaans stillfotograaf en producent. Emigreerde in 1939 met zijn familie naar New York en vestigde zich in de jaren vijftig in Parijs, maar werkte ook in Hollywood. Stillfotograaf van onder meer The Nun's Story (Fred Zinnemann, 1959), Exodus (Otto Preminger, 1960), To Kill a Mockingbird (Robert Mulligan, 1962) en Irma la Douce (Billy Wilder, 1963). Werd door Universal uitgenodigd om zijn eerste film te produceren, Gambit (met Shirley MacLaine; Ronald Neame, 1966). Daarna executive producer van The Secret War of Harry Frigg (met Paul Newman; Jack Smight, 1968). Produceerde in Frankrijk films als Jo (met Louis de Funès; Jean Girault, 1971), Le mouton enragé (Michel Deville, 1974), Catherine et Cie. (tevens scenario samen met Catherine Breillat; Michel Boisrond, 1975) en het vierluik Sunday Lovers (Edouard Molinaro, Bryan Forbes, Dino Risi en Gene Wilder, 1980). Laatste productie: Malone (met Burt Reynolds; Harley Cokeliss, 1987).
