Maakte samen met visual effects-pionier Ray Harryhausen in Engeland een serie succesvolle en invloedrijke fantasy en science-fictionfilms: The 3 Worlds of Gulliver (Jack Sher, 1960), Mysterious Island (Cy Endfield, 1961), Jason and the Argonauts (Don Chaffey, 1963), First Men in the Moon (Nathan Juran, 1964), The Valley of Gwangi (James O'Connolly, 1969), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (Gordon Hessler, 1974), Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (Sam Wanamaker, 1977) en Clash of the Titans (Desmond Davis, 1981). Maakte eerder in Amerika films als It Came from Beneath the Sea (Robert Gordon, 1955), Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (Fred F. Sears, 1956), Hellcats of the Navy (Juran, 1957), de enige film waarin Ronald Reagan speelde tegenover zijn latere echtgenote Nancy Davis, en The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (Juran, 1958). Ook een van de producenten van de Britse musicalfilm Half a Sixpence (met Tommy Steele; George Sidney, 1967).
