Amerikaans filmacteur, pseudoniem van Charles Van Dell-Johnson. Had net een zevenjarig contract met MGM getekend, toen hij in 1942 slachtoffer werd van een auto-ongeval. De metalen plaat in zijn hoofd behoedde Johnson voor dienst overzee, maar hij vervulde wel veel vacatures van militair actieve Hollywooodsterren. Eerste sprekende rol in Murder in the Big House (B. Mayer was zo verbolgen over aanhoudende geruchten over een homo-affaire tussen Van Johnson en Keenan Wynn dat hij Johnson in 1947 overhaalde te trouwen met Wynns vrouw Evie, in ruil voor betere rollen en arbeidsvoorwaarden voor beide acteurs. Het huwelijk werd op dezelfde dag voltrokken als de scheiding werd uitgesproken.
